HR Departments...
Or anyone in a department that has arbitrary control over some facet of a business...this quote...it's exactly how I feel about an HR department:

You don't really have to understand "elegance" but you need to understand the Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities needed to perform the tasks required of a CTO. To get this info you are probably going to do a job analysis which is going to take a little time. It'll be fun though. Once we get those KSAs we won't just use an unstructured interview to find our candidates. We are going to want to use behavioral interviews and probably use some psychological tests. Again, it's gonna be fun.
Ah but that's what I'm saying. I didn't mean you need to understand elegance, but rather you need to understand people, be a good judge of people and the skills required, be intuitive which isn't something that can be taught and mirrors elegance. I'm not a fan of people in those positions that are not good judges of people, of skills and lack that intuitive knack. You get the knowledge, you already have the desire and already hang out with good people (which is a testament to your ability to pick good people) and bam, you're existence in that position isn't arbitrary. I gotchu mayne.
